As we approach the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the town of Bordon is gearing up for a week of commemorative events to honour the brave individuals who took part in the historic invasion. From June 4th to June 8th, residents and visitors alike will have the opportunity to step back in time and immerse themselves in the stories and artifacts of D-Day.

One of the highlights of the week will be the display of D-Day memorabilia at the Phoenix Theatre. The exhibition, in partnership with the Woolmer Forest Heritage Society, will feature a collection of items from the era that will transport visitors back to the pivotal moments of June 6, 1944. On June 6th, the theatre will also screen the classic D-Day film, The Longest Day, offering audiences a chance to experience the events of that day on the big screen.

The commemorative events will also include a proclamation ceremony at the Forest Community Centre on June 6th, where the Town Crier will make a special announcement and raise the Union Flag. The evening will continue at Whitehill Village Hall, where D-Day memorabilia will be on display alongside refreshments provided by the Women’s Institute. The evening will culminate with the lighting of a beacon to honour the memory of those who took part in the operation.

Throughout the week, residents and visitors can also enjoy military-themed performances, displays, and activities at various locations around the town. From musical performances by local artists to historical exhibits and family-friendly activities in Hogmoor Inclosure, there will be something for everyone to enjoy and learn from during the D-Day Commemoration in Bordon.

Join us at the Town Park at The Shed on 8 June from 2-5pm for a military themed event featuring stalls and displays. The afternoon kicks off with performances by Jack Trinder and the Forest Players from 2-3pm, followed by a performance by Liss Brass Band from 3-4pm. The event wraps up with a WW2 themed singer, Stephanie Belle, taking the stage from 4-5pm. Don’t miss out on this exciting event honouring our military history and showcasing talented performers. On this day Town Park at The Shed will also host Phoenix Theatre’s immersive D-Day experience on June 8th. Using silent disco technology, participants will be able to engage with the stories, sounds, and music of D-Day in a unique and engaging way.

As we reflect on the sacrifices and heroism of those who took part in the D-Day invasion, the events in Bordon will serve as a fitting tribute to their legacy. Join us from June 4th to June 8th as we come together to remember and honour the brave individuals who changed the course of history on that fateful day in 1944.
